Financial Controller
Location: Newport
Position: Full time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000-£50,000 (DOE)

Our client is a dynamic, successful and ambitious start-up group of companies and we are delighted to be partnered with them for the appointment of a newly-created Financial Controller role, based near Newport, Gwent.
An entrepreneurial business, our client is experiencing huge success in their markets, across hospitality, leisure and property. With presence throughout South Wales along with South West England.
Due to growth within the business, our client is now recruiting for a Financial Controller to join them on their journey in achieving sustainable growth along with developing their own finance team.
The opportunity:
This is a great local opportunity for an individual. You will be responsible for the efforts and the results of the business, identifying profit and loss within the business as well as supporting accounts and by being the specialist within the business.
You will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, with a dotted line to the Group Head of HR.
Responsibilities of Financial Controller:
- Supervise and manage financial department staff, including finance assistant(s) within People Services
- Oversee all company accounts and investments
- Create monthly and annual reports to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts
- Manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports
- Establish and implement financial reporting systems to comply with government regulations and legislation
- Motivate and lead finance team members by clarifying roles and providing helpful feedback
- Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for cost reduction opportunities
- Suggest updates and improvements for accounting systems, including payroll and invoicing
- Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
- Create systems to prevent errors in data collection and calculations
- Be a pivotal and integral part of Profit and Loss across the business, ensuring data costs are reviewed regularly and cost savings are highlighted.
- Collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
- Develop budgets and financial plans for the company based on research and data reports
- Examine all financial reports and data closely to check for discrepancies
- Report to the COO & HRD with timely and accurate financial information
- Assist the COO & HRD in presenting reports to senior executives, stakeholders, and board member
Skills and Experience:
- Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
- 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Advanced degree in accounting
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
