Payroll Senior

Job Type: Permanent | Part-Time (up to 30 hours per week) or Full-Time (Hybrid Practice Role)
Salary: Up to £30,000 (depending on experience)

A growing and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Torbay is looking to recruit an experienced Payroll Senior to join its friendly and supportive team.

This opportunity offers flexibility depending on your experience. The practice is looking for either:

• A part-time payroll specialist (Up to 30 hours per week), or

• A full-time candidate with payroll experience who can also support other areas of the practice, such as VAT, accounts preparation or tax.

The Role

You'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly and on time while delivering an excellent level of client service.

For candidates seeking full-time hours, the role will also include supporting the wider practice with areas such as VAT returns and accounts work, creating a varied and rewarding position.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.

• Managing new starters, leavers, statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment.

• Submitting FPS, EPS and other HMRC payroll submissions.

• Responding to payroll-related client queries.

• Ensuring payroll records remain accurate and compliant.

• Processing pension submissions and maintaining payroll documentation.

• Supporting with VAT returns and/or accounts work (full-time hybrid role).

• Building strong, long-term client relationships.

About You

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Previous payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.

• Strong working knowledge of BrightPay.

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and client service skills.

• The ability to manage multiple deadlines.

• A proactive and collaborative approach.

For full-time applicants, experience with VAT, accounts preparation, tax or other accountancy practice work would be highly advantageous.
