Semi-Senior Accounts Technician

Location: Torbay initially | Hybrid / Exeter thereafter if preferred
Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time – Minimum 30 hours per week
Salary: Up to £33,000 FTE, depending on experience

A growing and forward-thinking accountancy practice is looking for an experienced Semi-Senior Accounts Technician to join its friendly and supportive team.

The role will initially be Torbay-based for the first six months, after which there will be the opportunity to work on a hybrid basis or from the Exeter office if preferred.

This is a varied practice role, working closely with a portfolio of clients across accounts preparation, bookkeeping and VAT, with the opportunity to take ownership of your workload and build strong client relationships.

The Role

You will be responsible for providing a range of accounts and bookkeeping services to a varied portfolio of clients, including preparing year-end and management accounts, VAT returns and supporting with wider practice work.

The role would suit someone with previous accountancy practice experience who is confident working independently, managing their own portfolio and dealing directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing bookkeeping for a range of clients.

• Preparing year-end and management accounts.

• Preparing and submitting VAT returns.

• Completing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.

• Dealing directly with client queries and providing day-to-day accounting support.

• Managing your own workload and ensuring client deadlines are met.

• Building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.

• Supporting with a range of general practice-based accounts work.

• Working closely with the wider team to deliver a high level of client service.

• Some payroll exposure would be beneficial, although this is not the main focus of the role.

About You

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

• Previous accountancy practice experience at Accounts Assistant, Semi-Senior or similar level.

• Strong bookkeeping and accounts preparation experience.

• Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.

• Good knowledge of accounting software.

• The confidence to manage your own workload and client deadlines.

• Strong communication and client service skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

• A proactive and professional approach.

• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
