Senior Accountant – Cornwall | £50,000
I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a growing and well-established accountancy practice in Cornwall.
This is a varied, hands-on position for someone who enjoys a mix of technical accountancy work, client management and team responsibility. The successful candidate will play an important role within the practice, taking ownership of their own client relationships while also supporting the wider team and day-to-day running of the office.
The role
The position will involve a broad range of accountancy practice responsibilities, including:

Preparing and finalising statutory accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders

Preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax returns

Preparing Self Assessment tax returns
-
Preparing and submitting VAT returns
-
Dealing with payroll and CIS
-
Producing management accounts
-
Liaising directly with clients and HMRC
-
Managing client queries and ensuring information is received accurately and on time

Building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships
-
Leading client tax review meetings
-
Identifying opportunities to introduce additional value-added services to clients
-
Reviewing client contracts and identifying areas of the portfolio that may not be profitable

Supporting new client onboarding and helping clients get set up on the practice's online portal

Providing training and support to clients where required
-
Managing and mentoring junior members of the team

Reviewing junior staff work and supporting their ongoing development
-
Helping to manage workflow, deadlines and general practice processes
-
Overseeing day-to-day office operations and helping to ensure systems and processes run efficiently

Supporting the Directors with practice management and wider operational responsibilities

Getting involved in ad-hoc projects and other areas of the business as required
About you
The ideal candidate will have a strong background within accountancy practice and be confident dealing with a varied portfolio of clients.
You will ideally be:

ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified or equivalent

An experienced practice accountant with at least 5 years' accountancy practice experience

Technically strong across accounts preparation, tax and VAT

Confident managing client relationships and dealing directly with clients

Experienced in supervising or mentoring junior staff

Comfortable managing your own workload and working to deadlines

Organised and methodical, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities

Confident using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
-
A strong communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with both clients and colleagues
-
Someone who enjoys taking ownership and getting involved in the wider running of a practice
The opportunity
This is a great opportunity for an experienced practice accountant who is looking for a varied role with genuine responsibility and the opportunity to play a key part in a growing practice.
The role offers the chance to work closely with clients, support and develop a team, and work alongside the Directors on the wider management and development of the practice.
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Location: Cornwall
Working arrangement: Office-based
